Highlight of the Tour See the world's first passenger railway station in Castlefield and the University district, where the atom was first split and the world‟s first programmable computer was created. For some a highlight will be seeing where our famous football teams play - Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium, and the Etihad stadium of Manchester City. The city has a great mixture of Victorian buildings and modern, bold architecture; the beautiful old central warehouses, the immense cotton mills of Ancoats and the neo-Gothic Town Hall (one of the most important UK buildings of its era). We also visit the ultra modern, regenerated area of Salford Quays - the location of MediaCityUK, the amazing Imperial War Museum North, The Lowry arts complex and the new location for Coronation Street
DAY 5 : MANCHESTER - LAKE DISTRICT
Morning check out and depart to Lake District, On Arrival meet your local Guide and enjoy the half day Guided Visit of Lake district, Afternoon free for your own at Lake Side, Evening depart to your hotel for check in Dinner and Overnight
Highlights of the Tour The day starts by driving north along the shores of Windermere, the largest lake in England at 10.5 miles long, towards Ambleside. From here we travel along the Roman Road through the dramatic Langdales and onto the infamous Wrynose and Hardknott passes. After ascending over the passes we continue on to Wastwater, the deepest lake in England, voted 'Britain's favourite view'. Our next stop is for lunch at the Fox and Hounds at Ennerdale Bridge, a community owned pub. We continue on through Buttermere and ascend Honister Pass passing by the famous Honister Slate Mine through Borrowdale and onto Keswick. On the return to Windermere we visit the 4000 year old Castlerigg Stone Circle and drive alongside peaceful Grasmere and Rydal Water before ending the tour back in Windermere.
